Web · Build

We build websites to be looked after for years, with typed and tested code over structured content, and a dependency list short enough that we are happy to maintain it ourselves.
Built for the years after launch
Most websites are built for launch day. The budget and the attention point at that one date, and the years after it get whatever is left. Two years on, the CMS has become awkward, a dependency has stopped being maintained, and a rebuild starts to look cheaper than another round of patches.
We plan for those years instead. The code is typed and tested, and the dependency list is short enough to read in one sitting. Content lives in a structured model rather than inside page templates, so a team adds a page by editing content instead of waiting on a developer. Those choices get made early, and they decide how a site ages.
Five projects on one CMLC site
Calgary Municipal Land Corporation came to us in 2023 for a corporate website. We moved them to a headless CMS, migrated the existing content, and built a front end to carry their brand.
Since then the same site has taken on four more projects. In 2024 we added partner packages, an interactive access map for the Culture + Entertainment District and a digital impact report, and in 2026 Transit-Oriented Communities. None of them needed a rebuild, because the 2023 build assumed the site would keep growing.

Structure first
Tributes has made promotional products and awards in Calgary since 1986, with pad printing, laser engraving and digital printing under one roof. Their old site read like an order form for awards. We started with a tour of the shop floor, and what we saw there set the structure of the site before any layout existed. Products, services, processes and materials each became their own content type, linked to one another, so a visitor can start from ceramic and see which processes work on it.
Strata Capital Partners wanted their site to avoid industry jargon almost entirely, so we drafted the copy first and their team edited it for substance and regulatory language. The sector allocation is a proportional bar with a legend, a holdings count and an “as at” date, and Strata updates all of it in the CMS without calling a developer.
Ready for a second language and more centres
Wee Wild Ones runs a growing network of not-for-profit childcare centres. Each centre needs its programs, fees and forms online, and the site still had to feel inviting to the parents reading it.
We built the design system and the language routing together, before a second language existed. The colour scales grew out of the palette they already had. French routing was live while the site was still English only, so launching in French means entering content rather than rebuilding anything.

The stack
We write TypeScript and React over structured content, rendered with Next.js or TanStack Start, with Tailwind carrying the design system. These are ordinary choices on purpose. We pick tools we expect to maintain for five years, because on most of this work we are the ones maintaining them.
We set a performance budget at the wireframe stage, and we build accessibility in from the first layout. Both cost far more to add to a finished site than to plan for in an unfinished one.
