Quickdraw Animation Society

When Quickdraw Animation Society approached Built by Field in 2021 with new in-house branding and a request for a new website, it was clear that their existing platform couldn't deliver the animated content that defined them.

We recommended Next.js with Prismic as a headless CMS, giving Quickdraw the ability to present smooth video content while keeping their team in control of day-to-day copy and imagery updates. This technical foundation was chosen to allow the site to get out of the way and let their work speak.

From the first page load, animation is front and center. The homepage hero section cycles through a rotating lineup of animated introductions, each contracted for the site from community animators. Link cards across the site run short animations on hover, rewarding attention with sparkles of personality without being demanding. On mobile, the same animations trigger as cards scroll into view, so the experience holds across devices.

Quickdraw came to the project with strong brand work, and the site builds directly on that foundation. High-contrast colour pairings like navy on yellow or red on white drive the call-to-action sections, as we aimed to apply colours to the site in ways that stay true to Quickdraw's own sensibilities. Their rich palette and confident logo are used throughout the designs wherever possible.

We created feeds for upcoming events and animation opportunities, and integrated the site with AMS to preserve the member rental system functionality their community already relied on.

The site launched in October 2021. Fast, maintainable, and built around the work of Calgary's animators, it gives Quickdraw Animation Society a platform to keep doing great work, taking into account their community every step of the way.
